A mother and her six children died in a house explosion and fire in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, on Sunday morning. The blast, which leveled the home, killed Sarah B. Stolzfus, 34, and her children—ages 11, 10, 8, 6, 5, and 3. Authorities suspect a propane leak inside the home caused the explosion, though the investigation is ongoing. Exterior propane tanks did not contribute to the fire, according to state police.
First responders arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames and were unable to search for survivors. Neighbors reported hearing a loud boom before flames consumed the house within minutes. The family had moved into the home a few months prior, and neighbors described seeing the children playing outside frequently.
State police confirmed the explosion occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Long Run Road in Lamar Township, roughly 35 miles from State College. No additional details on the investigation have been released.
