16-Year-Old Jailed for Rape of Teen in Park

A 16-year-old boy has been jailed for more than five years after raping a 17-year-old girl in a park in Worcester. The attack occurred in Cripplegate Park at around 2 a.m. on August 10, 2023, when the defendant was 15 years old. The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration. He was sentenced to five years and three months at Worcester Crown Court, with an additional two-and-a-half-year concurrent sentence for the sexual assault. The court heard that the victim was walking home from a night out when the defendant followed her into the park, where he made unwanted advances before assaulting her. DNA evidence, including traces of blood and semen, linked the defendant to the crime. The victim was found in distress by passersby and later identified the attacker. The defendant was arrested hours after the attack and charged two days later. Judge James Burbidge noted the defendant's lack of remorse and limited understanding of the impact on the victim. The youth was also placed on the sex offenders' register for life.
