Jake Reiner, son of the late director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, has shared his grief in a heartbreaking Substack post following their murders in December 2025. The couple was found stabbed to death in their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025. Their son Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
In his post, Jake described the moment he learned of his parents' deaths as devastating, saying, 'My world, as I knew it, had collapsed.' He recalled racing to his childhood home in a 45-minute taxi ride, feeling 'in a trance.' Jake expressed anguish over the loss of his parents, who he described as his 'guiding lights,' and the emotional toll of his brother being at the center of the case. 'We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable,' he wrote.
Jake also reflected on the future milestones his parents will miss, including his wedding and the birth of his future child. He described his mother as his 'confidant' and his father as a source of unconditional love. The family had been celebrating a holiday party the night before the murders, during which Nick was reportedly seen acting strangely after an argument with Rob.
Nick Reiner remains in custody, with his next court appearance pending. The case has drawn significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the victims and the family's public profile.
