Five Pickleball Players Killed in Texas Plane Crash

Five members of the Amarillo Pickleball Club were killed in a plane crash near Wimberley, Texas, on Thursday night while en route to a tournament. The victims—Seren Wilson, 19; Brooke Skypala, 45; Stacy Hedrick, 51; Justin 'Glen' Appling, 37; and Hayden Dillard, 39—were traveling in a Cessna 421C that departed Amarillo for New Braunfels National Airport. The plane crashed around 11 p.m. local time in a wooded area, 40 miles southwest of Austin, and was destroyed in a fiery explosion. Authorities confirmed there was no mid-air collision, and a second aircraft traveling in the vicinity landed safely. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the cause of the crash. The Amarillo Pickleball Club mourned the loss, describing the victims as 'five members of our Amarillo pickleball family.' Seren Wilson, the youngest victim, was also a high school tennis champion and was memorialized by her alma mater. Club president Dan Dyer noted that the group was traveling to compete in a tournament, a common practice among dedicated players. The crash has left the pickleball community and families of the victims in shock.
