1,500 Beagles Rescued from Wisconsin Facility

The first 300 of 1,500 beagles have been removed from Ridglan Farms, a Wisconsin dog breeding and research facility, following a confidential agreement between Big Dog Ranch Rescue, the Center for a Humane Economy, and Ridglan Farms. The dogs are being prepared for adoption after receiving medical care, vaccinations, and microchipping. The transfer follows months of negotiations and recent protests, including a March break-in where 30 dogs were taken and 63 people were referred for potential charges. Big Dog Ranch Rescue will find homes for 1,000 dogs, while the Center for a Humane Economy will take the remaining 500. The groups have received over 700 adoption applications but note that the dogs may require time to adjust to home life, including housebreaking and leash training. The facility has faced long-standing criticism from animal welfare advocates, who accuse it of mistreating dogs for scientific research. Ridglan Farms denies these allegations, stating its work supports biomedical research benefiting humans and animals.
