Two people opened fire at an apartment complex in Amarillo, Texas, early Saturday morning, killing two teenagers and wounding 10 others. Police are asking the public for help identifying the suspects, who were captured on surveillance video. The shooting occurred around 2 a.m. at an apartment complex near Interstate 40, about 6 miles west of downtown Amarillo.
Neighbor Phillip Thrasher described the scene as chaotic, with children running and screaming in confusion. "When I looked outside and came outside, it was complete chaos," he told KTVT-TV. "There was kids running everywhere, just screaming and running. They didn’t even know where they were running to."
Police Chief Thomas Hover stated that the suspects had an affiliation with the targeted location and were known to one of the occupants at the party. Authorities said the individuals involved had been at a different party earlier and were asked to leave before going to the complex where the shooting occurred. The conditions of the wounded were not released.
Hover also noted that police had increased patrol staffing after separate shootings killed six people in Amarillo on March 22. The investigation is ongoing, and police have not yet released a motive for the shooting.
