A federal judge in New York has ordered the unsealing of a purported suicide note written by Jeffrey Epstein to his then-cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, a convicted quadruple murderer. The note, written before Epstein’s first suicide attempt in July 2019, was previously sealed as part of Tartaglione’s case. U.S. District Judge Kenneth Karas ruled that the document should be made public, finding no sufficient reason to keep it sealed.
The handwritten note, partially illegible, includes phrases like "They investigated me for months – found nothing!!!" and "Time to say goodbye." Epstein’s death in August 2019 was ruled a suicide by hanging by the New York Medical Examiner’s Office, a finding later supported by the Justice Department. At the time of his first suicide attempt, Epstein had told a psychologist he had no interest in killing himself.
The note’s authenticity remains unverified, and its contents offer few new details about Epstein’s motivations. The unsealing of the document provides investigators and the public with their first look at the purported note.
