Former Dolton, Illinois Mayor Tiffany Henyard and her boyfriend have been accused of owing nearly $10,000 in unpaid rent by their former landlord, Genetta Hull. In March, Hull was awarded a default judgment after Henyard failed to appear in court. However, on Monday, Henyard's attorney successfully argued for a new judge and a trial set for June 1, vacating the initial judgment.
Hull told WGN Investigates the case has taken an emotional toll. Meanwhile, Henyard celebrated the decision in a Facebook video, calling the initial reporting 'fake news' and claiming a family emergency prevented her court appearance. She has since relocated to Georgia and is running for a commissioner's seat in Fulton County as a Republican.
The Village of Dolton has also been served a subpoena seeking records tied to a land development allegedly linked to Henyard's boyfriend. Henyard previously faced controversy during her tenure, including a township meeting that spiraled out of control and required police intervention.
