President Donald Trump hosted a luncheon in the newly renovated White House Rose Garden on May 8, honoring mothers who lost children to violence by illegal immigrants or in service to the U.S. Armed Forces. The event, part of Mother’s Day celebrations, included Angel Moms, Gold Star Mothers, and other guests.
Among the attendees were Anna Zarutska, whose daughter Iryna’s killing sparked discussions on violent crime, and Alicia Lopez, mother of Marine Corps Cpl. Hunter Lopez, who was killed during the 2021 Afghanistan evacuation. White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins also attended.
Earlier in the week, Trump held a separate Mother’s Day event with first lady Melania Trump, where he joked about an autocorrect error that misspelled her name as 'Melody.' He recounted media criticism over the incident, drawing laughter from attendees.
