Virginia-based Deputy Sheriff Chris Darlington, who has served in law enforcement for nearly 20 years, is preparing to release his first single on major country radio while still on duty. Darlington, currently a deputy with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office in northern Virginia, has long balanced his career in law enforcement with a passion for music. His upcoming single, "Hold the Line," was written in 2020 as a ballad intended to boost morale among law enforcement officers during a period of heightened tensions between police and communities.
The year 2020 marked the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and widespread protests following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Darlington told Fox News Digital that the media coverage during this time often portrayed law enforcement negatively, which he believed contributed to a challenging environment for officers. "That was kind of a bad year for everyone with the COVID, with the shutdown," he said. "So that gave me time, right, to think and to write more. And I felt like the media was real hard then. It seemed like every time something happened, right, that law enforcement didn't do right, or maybe they did do right. Or maybe it was a one side saying was right, one side thing was wrong. I felt like it was a bad time for law enforcement."
Darlington emphasized that his song was meant to uplift law enforcement officers, acknowledging that while there are "bad eggs" in any group, most officers are dedicated professionals. "Somewhere, you know, something would kick off and the media would be demonizing law enforcement as a whole," he continued. "So I felt like law enforcement could use something to lift up their spirits and motivate them to keep them going. So that was the idea behind the song. I just wanted to uplift the men and women that do the job and let them know that, yeah, there's some bad eggs in a dozen. But you know, for the most part, most of us are good people."
Darlington has incorporated themes of law enforcement into his songwriting, aiming to reflect the experiences and challenges faced by officers. His upcoming release marks a significant step in his musical career, as he transitions from writing and performing to gaining broader recognition on major country radio.
