Governor Wes Moore (D-MD) has urged Democrats to move forward from the 2024 election, dismissing calls for the release of the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) internal autopsy report. In an interview with Politico, Moore stated, 'Release it, don’t release it. I don’t care,' adding that relying on a research report to understand the election loss is 'part of the problem.' He argued that Democrats lost because they 'didn’t engage people' and failed to deliver results quickly. Moore also emphasized focusing on the 2026 midterms rather than the 2028 presidential race, though he has not ruled out a potential 2028 bid himself.
Meanwhile, other Democrats, including former Vice President Kamala Harris and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), have called for the DNC to release the report. Harris, the 2024 Democratic nominee, claimed she was unaware of DNC Chair Ken Martin’s decision to withhold the report, despite his earlier pledge to release it. Tlaib criticized party leaders for ignoring the Democratic base and failing to deliver on key promises. Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-Md.) suggested the report might be embarrassing, while Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) expressed confusion over its delay.
The DNC launched the autopsy following the party’s sweeping losses in the 2024 election cycle, which included the presidential race and congressional seats. The report’s findings could influence the party’s strategy for the 2026 midterms and Harris’ potential 2028 campaign.
