A former Georgia teacher, Sherri Delle Mauldin, 61, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 25 years of probation after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a 15-year-old student at Nathanael Greene Academy, a private Christian school in Siloam. The abuse occurred between January and December 2022, though Mauldin was not caught until June 2024. Prosecutors described the case as involving multiple sexual encounters over a month, citing the age gap and teacher-student relationship as aggravating factors. Judge Terry N. Massey imposed a sentence six years shorter than prosecutors requested. Mauldin’s attorney argued for probation, citing her claims of being in a 'dark place' during the incidents.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Bonnie Brown, 25, another teacher at the school, also allegedly had sex with the same student. Brown, a former student and 2016 homecoming queen, awaits trial. The scandal led to the school’s closure in March 2025. District Attorney T. Wright Barksdale III emphasized the severity of the case, noting the power imbalance and prolonged abuse. Mauldin must also register as a sex offender.
