A counter-response surfaced outside Wylie East High School in Texas on Tuesday, where a table stocked with Bibles, miniature Jesus figures, and bracelets was set up near the parking lot before school. The event followed an earlier incident in February when a 'Why Islam?' table distributed Qurans, pamphlets about Sharia law, and hijabs on campus. Some participants held signs reading, 'Bibles Not Qurans,' directly responding to the earlier Islam display.
Organizers reported handing out hundreds of Bibles. The event was organized by local Dallas-Fort Worth radio host Chris Krok, who said his listeners and podcast followers had been asking for a Bible handout for months. Krok collaborated with Wylie East student Marco Hunter-Lopez and the 16-year-old's father to expose the incident. Hunter-Lopez testified on Capitol Hill on May 13 before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution and Limited Government in a hearing titled, 'Sharia-Free America.'
Wylie ISD Superintendent Kim Spicer sent an email to parents, stating that the district respects the rights of individuals to distribute religious materials in public spaces in accordance with the law. The school's response came after the Bible handout event.
