Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt has filed a formal complaint against incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, alleging violations of election laws. The complaint, submitted by Pratt’s attorney Peter McNulty, claims Bass engaged in electioneering within 100 feet of a ballot box, a violation of California election code. The complaint cites a video posted by Bass on social media, which shows her and supporters holding campaign signs near a ballot drop box.
NBA star Kyle Kuzma has placed a $36,069 bet on Pratt winning the election, which would pay out $133,588.89 if successful. Kuzma, a forward for the Milwaukee Bucks, publicly supported Pratt on social media, stating, "For my parlay papis I’m going big on @spencerpratt." The primary election is scheduled for June 2.
Pratt has also criticized Bass’s handling of homelessness and drug use in Los Angeles. In a recent interview, he stated that many homeless individuals are "drug addicts" and suggested that his policies would push them to cities like Seattle. Bass, meanwhile, has defended her administration’s efforts, attributing slow progress to bureaucratic challenges.
Pratt’s campaign has gained traction, receiving endorsements from figures like President Donald Trump and Turning Point CEO Erika Kirk. However, his policies and rhetoric have drawn scrutiny, including a viral moment where he dismissed concerns about homelessness by suggesting they would relocate to other cities.
The election comes amid growing frustration in Los Angeles over crime, homelessness, and the city’s political status quo. Both Pratt and Bass are vying to address these issues in the nonpartisan primary.
