A Michigan house explosion early Tuesday left one person dead and another in critical condition, authorities said. The blast occurred around 4 a.m. in Plainfield Township, north of Grand Rapids, and destroyed the home, which was still on fire when authorities arrived, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Two neighbors, hearing the woman’s screams, rushed to her aid. “I had to get in there and get her out,” neighbor Tim Johnson told WOOD-TV. He and another neighbor grabbed her arms and pulled her from the wreckage. The woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Johnson suffered second-degree burns on his head and a hand from the blast, which also shook his house.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire and explosion. The investigation is ongoing.
