Nicole Blain, 30, has been sentenced to a minimum of 19 years in prison for the murder of her 19-day-old daughter, Thea June Wilson. The conviction follows a trial at the High Court in Glasgow, where Blain was found guilty of causing catastrophic injuries to the infant, including three skull fractures, brain damage, and bleeding behind the eyes. The injuries were consistent with blunt force trauma or violent shaking.
Blain initially claimed that another child in the flat had caused the injuries, but prosecutors dismissed this as "absurd." Judge Lord Scott described the attack as "catastrophic deadly violence" and rejected Blain's claims as a "feeble attempt to evade responsibility."
The trial revealed that Blain posted TikTok videos seeking funeral donations shortly after the murder, including requests for a horse and carriage for the coffin. She also uploaded footage of herself lip-syncing to a song. The judge noted that Blain had previously expressed concerns about Thea's safety, suggesting a hint of premeditation.
Blain's lawyer has lodged an appeal against the conviction and sentence. The case drew significant public attention, with onlookers in court yelling "monster" as Blain was led away.
