Actor James Handy, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick, Logan, and Jumanji, was fatally stabbed in the front yard of his Tarzana home on Wednesday. The suspect, Michael Gledhill, 44, allegedly confessed to the crime in a bizarre 911 call and later flagged down responding officers. Handy, 81, was pronounced dead at a local hospital after suffering a stab wound to the chest.
Gledhill, who lived with his mother at the home, was arrested and held on a $2 million bond. Police described the incident as an isolated event with no apparent public danger. The motive for the stabbing remains unclear. Surveillance footage showed Gledhill walking past the home shortly after the attack.
Handy, a veteran actor with a five-decade career, appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including NYPD Blue and The X-Files. His most recent role was in Top Gun: Maverick. Representatives confirmed his death to The Los Angeles Times.
